Report:Matt O’Riley injury fitness stepped up as fans spot ex-Celtic star’s major return clue

Matt O’Riley suffered an injury on his Brighton debut following a brutal challenge that looked quite severe. The former Celtic star, who moved to the Seagulls for a record-breaking £30 million fee in Scottish football, had been in sensational form in the Premiership and seemed worth every penny.

However, his debut against Crawley Town in the Carabao Cup was cut short after a harsh tackle, as confirmed by Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler. O’Riley had been eager to make an immediate impact but was sidelined just minutes into his first appearance.

Despite the setback, there’s still plenty of time for the 23-year-old to shine this season, and fans noticed a hopeful sign that his return might be sooner than expected. Brighton shared footage on their official channels showing O’Riley back on the training ground, participating in individual drills. In a short clip, the midfielder was seen training alone, with the caption “Getting closer,” along with a Denmark flag.

Although Hurzeler confirmed that O’Riley won’t be available for the upcoming match against Newcastle at St James’ Park, fans were encouraged to see him making progress in his recovery, with much of the season still ahead.

O’Riley only played eight minutes in his debut before being taken down by a high challenge from Jai Williams, who surprisingly avoided a red card. Despite the injury, Brighton triumphed with a 4-0 win at the Amex Stadium.

Before his move to the Premier League, O’Riley had an outstanding season at Celtic, where he won numerous Player of the Year awards and notched 19 goals and 18 assists, leading to his £30 million transfer.
