Bernardo was among several signings brought in by Celtic this summer to strengthen Brendan Rodgers’ squad. His initial loan move from Benfica in September 2023 became a permanent transfer.

The move to Scotland marked Bernardo’s first experience outside of Portugal, where he developed through Benfica’s youth system and had a loan stint at Paços Ferreira.

Since joining Celtic, Bernardo has become a regular presence in the team, making 43 appearances and contributing six goals and four assists. He emphasized his satisfaction with life at Celtic Park and stressed that his current focus is on this season.

“I’m doing well at Celtic, I want to have a good season,” he said. “I signed a five-year contract, I’m focused there and I’m not thinking about the future, but about having a great season, other opportunities coming up, and maybe moving to other areas. But at the moment, I’m focused on having a good season and I’m happy with my decision.”

Still, when asked about a potential return to Benfica, the club where he began his career, Bernardo acknowledged that it would be a possibility worth considering.

“My dream has always been to play for Benfica, and I think the door is still open. For me, it is still open, and if one day I return, I will be very happy,” he added.
