Aiden McGeady, the former Celtic star and Republic of Ireland international, has officially announced his retirement from professional football. The 38-year-old winger, known for his dazzling dribbling skills and creative flair, has decided to hang up his boots after a career spanning nearly two decades.
McGeady began his journey at Celtic, where he made his debut as a teenager in 2004. He quickly became a fan favorite at Parkhead, thrilling supporters with his skillful play and making over 180 appearances for the club. During his time at Celtic, McGeady won four Scottish Premier League titles, two Scottish Cups, and two Scottish League Cups. His performances also earned him multiple individual accolades, including the SPFA Young Player of the Year award in 2008.
In 2010, McGeady made a high-profile move to Spartak Moscow, becoming one of the most expensive transfers in Scottish football at the time. His time in Russia was marked by strong performances, and he later returned to British football, playing for clubs like Everton, Sunderland, and Charlton Athletic.
McGeady also enjoyed a successful international career, earning 93 caps for the Republic of Ireland. He was a key player in Ireland’s campaigns for the UEFA European Championships in 2012 and 2016, showcasing his talent on the international stage.
