BREAKING NEWS: Major boost as injured Brighton ace spotted training ahead of Newcastle…

Brighton & Hove Albion defender Jan Paul van Hecke is showing encouraging progress in his recovery from a groin injury ahead of this Saturday’s Premier League match against Newcastle.

The 24-year-old has been sidelined for Brighton’s last two league games after sustaining the injury during the 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at the Amex Stadium last month. His absence was felt in the subsequent 4-2 defeat to Chelsea and the 3-2 comeback win over Tottenham just before the international break.

Jan Paul van Hecke’s quicker-than-expected recovery from his groin injury is a welcome boost for Brighton & Hove Albion ahead of their Premier League clash against Eddie Howe’s Newcastle at St James’ Park. Originally expected to be sidelined for six weeks, Van Hecke was seen looking sharp in training, raising hopes of an earlier return.

Before Brighton’s recent match against Tottenham, Van Hecke shared his thoughts with *ESPNnl*, saying, “We have to wait and see how the rehabilitation goes, but in principle it is six weeks. I feel like I am slightly ahead of schedule. I hope that it will go a bit faster and that I can rejoin sooner. It’s a shame and I’m disappointed that I had to sustain this injury at this time, but injuries never come at a good time. You have to learn to deal with it. I’m going to make sure I’m back as soon as possible.”

His potential return is especially crucial for head coach Fabian Hurzeler, as Brighton faces a defensive shortage following Adam Webster’s suspected hamstring injury in the first half of the Tottenham game. Webster had been filling in for Van Hecke, and his injury has left Brighton short on center-back options.

Brighton is also hoping for the availability of attacker Simon Adingra, who is recovering from a “minor injury.” Additionally, summer signing Brajan Gruda, who made a brief substitute appearance against Tottenham, could be in line for his first start.

Midfielder Solly March is nearing a return after being out for 12 months with a knee injury sustained against Manchester City last season. However, striker Joao Pedro and midfielder Matt O’Riley are ruled out due to ankle injuries, while James Milner remains a doubt with a hamstring issue.
