NEWARK, N.J. (AP)** — Jake Allen earned his first shutout with New Jersey, and rookie defenseman Seamus Casey scored early in the second period, helping the Devils secure a 3-0 victory over the Utah Hockey Club on Monday.
Stefan Noesen and Nico Hischier also found the back of the net for the Devils, who have now won four out of their last five games. New Jersey missed out on the playoffs last season.
This loss marked Utah’s first defeat in four games. They won their home opener against Chicago and then earned overtime victories against the Islanders and Rangers on their current road trip.
Casey netted his third goal of the season on a power play just 1:14 into the second period. Noesen followed with a goal, assisted by Casey, at 8:13 of the second, and Hischier added another power-play goal at 10:13 of the third.
Karel Vejmelka made 30 saves for Utah in his first start of the season, while Allen recorded 20 saves for New Jersey.
