Brighton & Hove Albion might be active in the January transfer market, despite already spending over £200 million last summer. The Seagulls reinforced their squad with several new arrivals, including Yankuba Minteh, Brajan Gruda, Georginio Rutter, Matt O’Riley, Mats Wieffer, and Ferdi Kadıoğlu.
Most of these signings, apart from Kadıoğlu—who plays primarily as a full-back—are focused on midfield and attacking roles. This has given new head coach Fabian Hurzeler plenty of options in those areas, though it has left the team a bit thin in terms of defensive depth.
The situation has been further complicated by injuries to key defenders. Just before the international break, Jan Paul van Hecke sustained a groin injury, while Adam Webster suffered a thigh issue, potentially sidelining both players for an extended period. As a result, Hurzeler may prioritize defensive reinforcements in the upcoming window.
