A lifelong Celtic fan had a memorable return to Parkhead this month for the first time in nearly 40 years, thanks to a special 70th birthday surprise from his family.
Joey McCrory, a wheelchair user from Lurgan, Northern Ireland, captured the hearts of thousands when a video of him walking through the players’ tunnel at Celtic Park went viral.
Joey, who has “lived and breathed Celtic since birth,” suffered a stroke at the age of 50, which left him without the ability to speak and paralyzed on his right side, requiring the use of a wheelchair.
After nearly 40 years, the devoted Celtic fan Joey McCrory made an emotional return to Parkhead on October 6, possibly for the last time. In a deeply moving moment, Joey, with his family in tears, stood on his own two feet and walked through the players’ tunnel, touching the hearts of everyone present.
Speaking to *Glasgow Live*, Joey’s daughter Annie McCrory shared that the family took a quick trip to Glasgow to celebrate his 70th birthday. She explained, “My dad has lived and breathed Celtic since he was born, and as something special for his 70th, we thought we’d ask if he’d like a tour of Celtic Park. But with him being in a wheelchair, we weren’t sure if he’d be up for it.”
“He said yes, and we couldn’t believe it!” Annie McCrory recalled. “We flew over in the morning, and our flight home was at 2:35 pm. It was a really quick visit, but well worth it—getting him there was like winning the lottery.”
