Kolo Toure has expressed deep appreciation for Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers, who gave him his first opportunity in coaching after his playing days ended. Toure, a key part of Celtic’s Invincible team during the 2016/17 season, transitioned into a coaching role under Rodgers at both Celtic and later Leicester City.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Toure reflected on his brief but challenging managerial stint at Wigan Athletic in 2022. Despite a difficult time, where he was sacked after failing to secure a win in his first nine games, Toure emphasized that he remains in contact with his former mentors, including Rodgers and Arsene Wenger.
He revealed that Rodgers continues to offer invaluable advice, encouraging him to stay active, maintain his health, and keep applying for coaching roles. Toure shared that both Wenger and Rodgers emphasize resilience and self-care as key components of moving forward in his career. Though currently out of work, Toure is determined to return to management, driven by the trust and belief instilled in him by these influential figures.
