Former Aberdeen chief Keith Wyness believes Brendan Rodgers is capable of turning Celtic’s fortunes around and leading them to success in the Champions League this season. Speaking on the latest episode of *Football Insider’s* Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old, who has held senior roles at clubs like Aberdeen, Everton, and Aston Villa, described Celtic’s recent 7-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund as “embarrassing.”
Despite the heavy loss, Wyness is confident that Celtic can still qualify for the Champions League knockout stages, especially following their 5-1 win against Slovan Bratislava. Rodgers’ team faces tough upcoming matches against Atalanta, Dinamo Zagreb, and Aston Villa away, with home games against RB Leipzig, Club Brugge, and Young Boys still to come.
Wyness emphasized that Celtic now face expectations based on their European performances rather than their domestic rivalry with Rangers. He believes the Celtic board will continue to support Rodgers if he can improve their Champions League results, noting that a solid group stage campaign and qualification for the next round would satisfy the board and represent progress from last year. Wyness concluded that Rodgers has a good squad and must deliver in the key matches to prove his capability.
