Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic have opted to turn down a significant financial boost from Premier Sports. The club’s highly-anticipated match against in-form Aberdeen will not be selected for TV coverage, despite Premier Sports’ desire to include it in their lineup.
The broadcaster has secured a contract granting them rights to 20 additional Premiership games this season, but Celtic’s clash with Aberdeen won’t be part of that package. According to the Daily Mail, Celtic has chosen to ‘opt out’ of an SPFL contract that allowed Premier Sports to broadcast these extra matches, alongside their existing Sky Sports coverage.
By making this decision, Celtic has turned down the opportunity to earn £75,000 per home game, potentially reaching a maximum of £150,000 if two Parkhead fixtures were to be televised.
The club’s leadership prioritized their loyal season ticket holders in this decision, aiming to prevent any inconvenience for fans who have already made travel arrangements for the upcoming matches.
