Breaking News:Maple Leafs place Calle Jarnkrok, Jani Hakanpaa and Dakota Mermis on long-term injured reserve

The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced their opening-day roster for the 2024-25 season, with several players starting on injured reserve. Defensemen Jani Hakanpää and Dakota Mermis, and forwards Calle Järnkrok, Connor Dewar, and Fraser Minten will miss the start of the season due to injuries.
Hakanpää’s knee injury, sustained last season, is no surprise. Järnkrok reaggravated a lower-body injury in preseason. Mermis underwent jaw surgery, while Dewar recovers from shoulder surgery. Minten suffered a high-ankle sprain in a rookie tournament.
The Maple Leafs begin their season against the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday. Notable absentees include:
  • Hakanpää (knee injury)
  • Järnkrok (lower-body injury)
  • Mermis (jaw surgery)
  • Dewar (shoulder surgery)
  • Minten (high-ankle sprain)
The team finalized Hakanpää’s one-year contract last month after initial registration issues.
