Heading into tonight’s game against Detroit with a 3-1-1 record, the Leafs aim to wrap up the pre-season and training camp on a high note with a big win at Scotiabank Arena before hitting the road to start the 2024-25 regular season with back-to-back games against Montreal and New Jersey on October 9th and 10th.

The roster for tonight’s game closely resembles what the Leafs plan to use on opening night, with a few exceptions. Nick Robertson, Calle Jarnkrok, and Jake McCabe, all injured during Thursday’s win over Detroit, will sit out tonight to ensure they are fully fit for the season opener against the Canadiens next week.

With McCabe unavailable, Philippe Myers will get a final chance to impress the coaching staff, though expectations are that he will be waived and assigned to the Toronto Marlies regardless of his performance.

The most surprising aspect is Easton Cowan’s absence from tonight’s lineup, after playing in each of the first five games and not being loaned back to the OHL yesterday. This could suggest he may stay with the team for a short trial, similar to Fraser Minten last season, or he could be cut in the coming days and sent back to the London Knights.
