Friends of Harleigh Hepworth, a 23-year-old from Staffordshire who was tragically killed in West Park, Wolverhampton, have organized a heartfelt tribute to honor his memory. Harleigh, described as a kind and aspiring footballer, was an avid Wolverhampton Wanderers fan. In a call for remembrance, his friends are asking fans attending Saturday’s FA Cup match to applaud for 60 seconds at the 17th minute as a tribute to him.
Harleigh’s friend, Freya, shared her grief with the BBC, stating how his death shocked their community and emphasized the lack of knife crime awareness in their area. She, along with other friends, are organizing the tribute, hoping to make Harleigh proud. The group has also requested that Wolverhampton Wanderers display his picture on the screen during the applause. The football club has acknowledged this appeal.
A memorial gathering for Harleigh is scheduled at Brereton Park, where his friendship group often met. His tragic death has led to two teenagers being charged with murder, both of whom are set to appear in court in April.
This tribute reflects the impact Harleigh had on those who knew him, and it underscores the devastating effects of knife crime on young lives and communities.
