Jacob Farrell has been backed by Portsmouth manager John Mousinho to make the step up to Championship football after his debut against Sheffield United. Farrell, who recently joined Portsmouth from Central Coast Mariners, faced a challenging first game in English football, coming up against winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, who is expected to be one of the most dangerous wide players in the Championship this season.
Rak-Sakyi caused Farrell some trouble, exploiting dangerous areas on several occasions, but the 21-year-old Australian showed resilience. As the match progressed and Rak-Sakyi was substituted, Farrell grew into the game and even got forward, creating a scoring opportunity but missed a late header.
Farrell’s debut came due to the absence of regular defender Connor Ogilvie, who was sidelined with illness. Mousinho acknowledged Farrell’s difficult moments but was impressed by how he adjusted, particularly in the last half-hour, and remains confident in his potential to improve.
Mousinho praised Farrell’s attitude, highlighting his ability to adapt to the higher intensity of Championship football, suggesting he has a bright future ahead at Pompey .
