SAD NEWS: Leeds fan stabbed outside the stadium after attending the championship match between Leeds United and Coventry City

A disturbing incident occurred during the first leg of the 2023-2024 Championship promotion playoff semi-final between Leeds United and Norwich City. A Leeds fan was stabbed in the neck outside Carrow Road, Norwich City’s stadium, following the match. The altercation was reportedly triggered by a group of people singing songs that mocked the tragic deaths of two Leeds fans in Istanbul 24 years ago.

The incident stems from a clash in 2000 when two Leeds fans were killed by Galatasaray supporters ahead of a UEFA Cup semi-final match in Istanbul, which still resonates painfully with Leeds United fans. After hearing the mocking songs, a Leeds fan confronted the group and was subsequently stabbed. Thankfully, reports indicate that the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening, and he received immediate medical attention from paramedics.

The people responsible for the attack are believed to be Norwich fans, although investigations are ongoing. The victim’s son shared details on social media, expressing relief that his father’s injury was not severe, despite the terrifying circumstances.

This incident has sparked widespread outrage, highlighting the need for a crackdown on fan violence and respect for past tragedies in football. Police are reportedly investigating the case further.
