Tributes have been pouring in for Steve Plant, a beloved Wolverhampton Wanderers fan and dedicated fundraiser, who passed away on Monday morning at the age of 63 following a heart attack. Plant, from Stourbridge, was renowned for his passion for Wolves, amassing an impressive collection of the club’s shirts and memorabilia, which he proudly displayed in his home-turned-museum. He was also the author of the *They Wore The Shirt* book series, with the third volume, *Old Gold and Black*, set to be launched on October 13 at the Mount Hotel.
Beyond his love for the club, Plant’s generosity and tireless charity work were also widely recognized. He raised over £100,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital, earning admiration for his dedication to helping sick children. The hospital described him as one of its most dedicated supporters, with his impact on countless patients leaving a lasting legacy.
Wolves acknowledged Plant’s contributions with a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), calling him “one of our own” and honoring him for his service to the community with the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Award. Fellow fans also paid tribute on social media, praising him for his humility, kindness, and his commitment to fundraising without seeking praise.
Many supporters are now calling for a minute’s applause in his memory at Wolves’ next fixture, with some emphasizing that Plant’s efforts made him an integral part of the club’s history and community.
