£12m wasted: Farke must sell Leeds man who earns more than Gnonto

Leeds United experienced a turbulent summer transfer window after failing to secure promotion back to the Premier League last season. Under Daniel Farke, they finished third in the Championship but lost 1-0 to Southampton in the play-off final at Wembley. This failure saw several key players depart, with Archie Gray, Glen Kamara, Crysencio Summerville, and Georginio Rutter securing moves to top-tier clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, Rennes, West Ham United, and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Despite the departures, Leeds still have a talented squad, and Farke is focused on securing promotion this season. The club currently sits sixth in the Championship, having won three and lost only one of their opening six league games. One key player Farke will want to hold onto is **Wilfried Gnonto**, the talented Italian winger who remained at Elland Road despite interest from Everton during the summer transfer window. After rejecting several offers for Gnonto, Leeds managed to extend his contract until 2028.

Gnonto has been a consistent performer for Leeds, contributing eight goals and two assists in 36 Championship appearances during the 2023/24 season. Although his stats this season show one goal in six matches, he has been unlucky not to add assists, as his teammates have failed to convert the chances he has created.

While Leeds should aim to retain talents like Gnonto, there is one player they could consider offloading—**Rasmus Kristensen**. Currently on loan at **Eintracht Frankfurt**, Kristensen has made a strong impression, and the Bundesliga side is reportedly interested in making the deal permanent. With Frankfurt possessing an option to buy for €13m (£10m), Leeds could take advantage of this opportunity to sell Kristensen, especially as they risk losing him for free later on if no deal is made.

Kristensen’s contract runs until 2026, but considering his form and Frankfurt’s interest, it might be the right time for Leeds to cash in on the Danish defender, allowing them to focus on strengthening other areas as they push for promotion.
