Celtic midfielders Callum McGregor and Arne Engels have earned recognition for their work rate in the UEFA Champions League matchday one, ranking in the top 10 for distances covered across all players. During Celtic’s commanding 5-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava, both players were pivotal in the team’s success, each covering more than 12.5 kilometers.
Arne Engels, who delivered a crucial corner that set up Liam Scales’ opener and scored Celtic’s third goal from the penalty spot, ran 12.62 kilometers, while captain Callum McGregor, who maintained control in midfield, covered 12.55 kilometers. They were outrun by just four other players: Bayern Munich’s Alexsandr Pavlovic and Joshua Kimmich, Atletico Madrid’s Koke, and Bologna’s Remo Freuler. This performance reflects both players’ importance to Celtic’s style of play, combining skill with stamina on the European stage.
