PLAYER INTERVIEW: ‘When my opportunity comes I have to be ready to take it’

Young striker Dajaune Brown is thrilled to have signed a new contract with Derby County, extending his stay at Pride Park Stadium until the summer of 2027. Brown, now 18, has been steadily working his way into Paul Warne’s first team over the last year, having already made eight senior appearances. His development has been accelerated by a productive loan spell at National League side Gateshead, where he netted 10 goals in 22 appearances during the 2023/24 season.

Reflecting on the new deal, Brown expressed his pride and shared how his family played a pivotal role in his journey. His dad, offering constructive criticism, and his mom, providing confidence, helped him grow as a player. Over the past year, Brown has expanded his skill set from being primarily a hold-up striker to someone more versatile, capable of running in behind defenses. His loan spell with Gateshead was a confidence-boosting experience that has helped him return to Derby more prepared and determined to break into the starting lineup.

Brown’s goal now is to continue pushing for first-team opportunities and make the most of his chances when they come.
