Scales, the Republic of Ireland centre-back, made a significant impact by scoring the opening goal with a header from an Arne Engels corner in the first half. His performance throughout the match earned him the Man of the Match award for the second consecutive Champions League game.

Despite being on the verge of a loan move at the start of last season, Scales stayed with Celtic due to a series of injuries within the squad. Under Rodgers, he became a regular starter and played a key role in Celtic’s Premiership and Scottish Cup double.

Recently, Scales has managed to keep new signing Auston Trusty out of the lineup, with Trusty only making his debut late in the match against Slovan. Rodgers expressed his satisfaction with Scales’ performance and noted that he is sometimes overshadowed by the club’s foreign signings.

“He’s a very strong header of the ball,” Rodgers remarked. “I’ve mentioned before that he doesn’t always get the credit he deserves. Sometimes, with local players or those from the British Isles, they don’t always get the spotlight. I’ve seen this throughout my coaching career.

“People often focus on big names or flashy signings, but it’s the players like Greg Taylor and Liam Scales who truly stand out. They are crucial to our success. Liam scored a fantastic goal and performed exceptionally well. I’m really pleased for him because he has been a consistently strong performer since he joined the team.”
