EXCLUSIVE:The Door Isn’t Shut – Russell Martin Clear On Southampton Pair.

Southampton manager Russell Martin has expressed his admiration for Paul Onuachu and Armel Bella-Kotchap, emphasizing that he hasn’t ruled out any players from future consideration. Onuachu, who was on loan at Trabzonspor last season and sought a permanent move to the Turkish club, saw the deal fall through. Similarly, Bella-Kotchap was close to joining Hoffenheim this summer, but the transfer collapsed due to a health concern with the defender’s heart.

Russell Martin Not Closing Southampton Door On Duo

Though Martin hasn’t included either player in recent matchday squads, he explained that his decisions are based on selecting players best suited to his style for each game. Speaking about their absence from the EFL Cup tie against Everton, Martin clarified that his choice was tactical, tailored to the match at hand.

He further revealed that he had in-depth discussions with both players before the transfer window closed, reiterating that he values their abilities but must consider the club’s immediate and long-term needs. “I have to balance the short, medium, and long-term plans for the club and who fits the style of play best,” Martin told BBC Radio Solent, adding that his decisions will vary game by game.

Despite not being selected recently, Martin emphasized that the door remains open for Onuachu and Bella-Kotchap to re-enter his plans as the season progresses.
