The body of Leeds United fan Gary Simpson, believed to be in his 40s, was discovered on Cleethorpes beach on Friday morning, shortly after being reported missing. Mr. Simpson, who was from Grimsby, had been watching his team take on Derby County in a Championship semi-final with friends. After being separated from his group, he was later found about 100 meters from shore by a jogger, who alerted emergency services.
Humberside Police are treating his death as “unexplained” and have launched an investigation. Floral tributes, including Leeds United scarves, have been placed on the Cleethorpes Promenade in memory of Mr. Simpson. A postmortem examination is set to be carried out to determine the cause of death.
