LATEST NEWS: Coventry striker seriously injured in car crash which kills brother

Peter Ndlovu, the former winger for Coventry City, Birmingham City, Sheffield United, and Huddersfield Town, was seriously injured in a car accident in Zimbabwe. Tragically, the accident claimed the life of his older brother Adam Ndlovu, a fellow professional footballer and coach, and also killed a female passenger.

The accident occurred near Victoria Falls when a tire burst on the BMW X5 they were traveling in, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and collide with a tree. Peter, 39 at the time and assistant coach for the Zimbabwean national team, was moved to a medical center in Bulawayo after being stabilized. He sustained internal injuries, head trauma, broken ribs, and a broken leg but was reported to be out of immediate danger.

Adam Ndlovu, 42, had enjoyed a successful football career in Switzerland and Zimbabwe, scoring 34 goals for the national team. At the time of his passing, he was a coach in the Zimbabwe Premier League and had recently led Chicken Inn FC to a third-place finish.

Both brothers were well-known in Zimbabwean and English football, with Peter Ndlovu being a trailblazer as the first African player to play in the Premier League, having signed with Coventry City in 1991. He went on to make over 170 appearances for the club before joining Birmingham City and later Sheffield United, amassing a significant following. Tributes poured in from across the football community, including statements from Coventry City, Birmingham City, Sheffield United, and Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai, reflecting on the brothers’ contributions to football.
