The Scottish Football Association (SFA) has launched a new initiative called “The VAR Review,” which aims to provide transparency and explanations surrounding contentious decisions made using VAR in Scottish football. The review will be available monthly on the SFA’s YouTube channel, where key match decisions from the previous four weeks will be analyzed.
The initiative includes audio from matchday officials and provides a verdict on whether each decision was correct or not. This move is part of the SFA’s efforts to improve communication with clubs and supporters, particularly when controversial decisions arise. Since VAR’s introduction in 2022, it has sparked debates, despite being generally effective.
The first episode of “The VAR Review” is already live, with Scottish football’s Head of Refereeing, Willie Collum, explaining various decisions. Fans can now expect a regular, in-depth look at how VAR is applied across the league and the reasoning behind decisions.
