Saint Mary’s College golfers Mitchell Hoey and Aidan Lee were recognized as 2023-24 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars for their outstanding achievements both on the golf course and in the classroom. This prestigious honor, which requires nominees to excel academically and athletically, reflects the hard work and dedication of these student-athletes.
To qualify for this award, candidates must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors at NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA institutions, or in their final year of eligibility in the NJCAA. They must have participated in at least 50% of their team’s competitive rounds, maintain a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, and hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2. Additionally, recipients must demonstrate high moral character and be in good standing at their respective institutions.
Mitchell Hoey, who competed in 11 out of 13 events during the season, ended with an impressive 72.7 stroke average. He achieved three top-10 finishes, including a standout 4th place at the Nick Watney Invitational, where his strong performance contributed to the Gaels’ tournament victory.
Aidan Lee, in his second season with Saint Mary’s, also had a successful year, finishing with a 73.2 stroke average over 12 events. He secured two top-10 finishes and was a postseason participant, finishing 3-over-par at the 2024 WCC Championships, which placed him in the top 25.
In total, 531 NCAA Division I athletes from 180 schools earned the 2023-24 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors. The recognition highlights the commitment of Hoey and Lee to both their sport and their studies, showcasing their role as exemplary student-athletes for Saint Mary’s College.
