Celtic transfer news: Keith Wyness can’t believe ‘surprising’ Parkhead latest

Keith Wyness, former CEO of Aberdeen, Everton, and Aston Villa, has expressed his surprise at Celtic’s decision to leave their major transfer business until the final days of the transfer window. Speaking on the Football Insider’s *Inside Track* podcast, Wyness criticized the Celtic board for being “too tight in releasing the purse strings” and suggested that the club should have secured key signings earlier, especially with the anticipated sale of Matt O’Riley to Brighton for a club-record fee.

Wyness noted that while there is still a chance for Celtic to make “one or two blockbuster signings” before the window closes on August 30th, the timing is far from ideal. He emphasized that Celtic should have wrapped up these deals sooner to ensure they could make a significant impact on the squad.

Celtic, under Brendan Rodgers, have already welcomed five new signings this summer, including Adam Idah and Kasper Schmeichel. However, with the sale of O’Riley, the club is now expected to be active in the final days of the transfer window. Reports indicate that Celtic are pushing to sign LAFC star Mateusz Bogusz and Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels. Additionally, the club’s opening £5 million bid for Sheffield United’s Auston Trusty has been rejected.

Wyness’s comments reflect concerns from Celtic fans who have been frustrated by the club’s apparent delay in making crucial signings, particularly with the new Europa League format presenting an exciting opportunity for the team. Wyness concluded by stating that while it’s not too late for Celtic to make impactful signings, the club will need to act quickly in the remaining days of the transfer window.
