Former Blackpool defender Richard Keogh has officially announced his retirement from professional football after a 20-year career, during which he made 786 appearances. Keogh, who most recently played for Forest Green Rovers, will now transition into coaching as the next chapter of his career.

In a heartfelt statement on his personal account on X, Keogh expressed his gratitude for his journey in football, highlighting the unforgettable moments that shaped him both as a player and as a person. He thanked his family, friends, agent, and advisors for their unwavering support throughout his career. He also extended his appreciation to his former teammates, managers, coaches, and the fans who made his playing days memorable.

Keogh joined Blackpool in the 2021/22 season under current manager Neil Critchley, making 31 appearances in all competitions. After a season at Blackpool, he moved to Ipswich Town, where he contributed to their promotion campaign.

The 26-cap Republic of Ireland international reflected on the honor of wearing the captain’s armband for his country, calling it the ultimate achievement of his career. He also expressed his deep appreciation for his wife, Charlie, and their two sons, Seb and Myles, for their support.

As Keogh looks forward to his coaching career, he leaves behind a legacy of dedication and passion for the game.
