Crystal Palace have confirmed that defender Pape Souaré is expected to make a full recovery after undergoing surgery for injuries sustained in a serious car crash. The 26-year-old suffered fractures to his thigh and jaw in the accident on Sunday and was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital’s major trauma unit.
Souaré underwent surgery on Tuesday morning, and according to a statement from the club, he is anticipated to be discharged by Friday. The statement expressed gratitude towards the emergency services and the London Air Ambulance for their swift and effective response, which ensured Souaré received immediate medical care.
Crystal Palace also announced a donation to the London Air Ambulance service, highlighting its importance as a charity-funded organization. Souaré’s team-mate, Yohan Cabaye, offered his support via social media, wishing him a speedy recovery.
Since joining Crystal Palace from Lille for £3.4 million in January 2015, Souaré has been a regular starter at left-back, making 55 appearances for the club. His absence due to the injury will necessitate a change in the left side of Palace’s defense, as he missed the recent 2-1 win over Middlesbrough.
