Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo is reportedly close to securing a loan move to Blackburn Rovers, as the Scottish club looks to offload the player before the transfer window closes. According to the *Daily Record*, Blackburn has emerged as the most likely destination for Matondo after a potential move to Leeds United failed to materialize.
The deal is expected to be a loan arrangement, with Rangers having to cover a significant portion of Matondo’s wages. Despite Blackburn’s financial capability, given their wealthy owners Venkys London Ltd, the club seems to be leveraging Rangers’ urgency to move the player. Rangers are keen to finalize Matondo’s departure before the 30 August deadline, as the winger has struggled to make a significant impact since joining from Schalke in 2022.
Matondo has only managed six goals and four assists in his time at Rangers, which has seen him fall down the pecking order under Philippe Clement. With limited opportunities this season, a move to the Championship could provide Matondo with the fresh start he needs to reignite his career.
This potential move would also allow Rangers to redirect resources towards strengthening their squad, as they aim to challenge Celtic more effectively in the Scottish Premiership.
