Fenerbahçe is reportedly interested in signing Leicester City’s midfielder Boubakary Soumaré, according to recent reports. Soumaré joined Leicester City from Lille in July 2021 for £17 million and made 59 appearances for the club over his first two seasons. However, after Leicester’s relegation to the Championship following the 2022/23 season, Soumaré was loaned to Sevilla for the 2023/24 season.
During his time at Sevilla, Soumaré played 34 games across all competitions and was a standout performer in La Liga, leading his teammates in possessions won in the middle third of the pitch. Although Sevilla had an option to sign Soumaré permanently, their failure to qualify for European competition hindered their ability to complete the transfer, leading to his return to Leicester City.
Now, Turkish club Fenerbahçe has emerged as a serious contender for Soumaré’s signature. The club, which finished second in the Turkish Süper Lig last season, is reportedly seeking an experienced central midfielder after former Manchester United player Fred suffered a knee ligament injury during pre-season. Fenerbahçe’s manager, José Mourinho, is said to be keen on adding Soumaré to the squad, and the club has reportedly taken “concrete steps” in their pursuit of the player.
Soumaré recently appeared as a substitute in Leicester’s 1-1 draw against Tottenham in their first match back in the Premier League.
