Rangers have expressed interest in signing Benfica winger Tiago Gouveia before the transfer window closes, as reported by Joshua Barrie.
The journalist from The Rangers Review shared via YouTube on Wednesday (21 August, 15:50) that while Rangers are keen on the 23-year-old, it doesn’t necessarily mean they can secure his signing right away. Philippe Clement’s team is preparing potential transfer targets in case they have the opportunity to make additional signings before the deadline.
Speaking on The Rangers Review YouTube channel, Barrie mentioned, “Rangers have shown interest in this player, just as they have with others throughout the summer. However, there are a lot of conditions attached to their interest. Rangers can’t always immediately sign a player; it’s about lining up potential recruits. This was evident with Vaclav Cerny and, to some extent, Robin Propper.”
Will Tiago Gouveia leave Benfica amidst Rangers’ interest?
Since arriving at Ibrox, Clement has been eager to incorporate wingers into his system, even though the team has had limited options in that position over the past year. With Cerny and Oscar Cortes, the Rangers manager has brought in two quality, natural wingers, though both are still getting fully up to speed. Gouveia would add more competition for these roles, providing another option rather than relying on Scott Wright to step in when Cortes or Cerny are unavailable.
It remains uncertain whether Rangers have the financial capacity to complete this deal, which will likely depend on whether they can offload some of their high earners.
In other Rangers news, Cyriel Dessers has made a new transfer decision amid interest from Atlanta United this summer.
