Breaking News: Stoke City close in on seventh signing of the summer

Stoke City is on the verge of securing their seventh signing of the summer, as head coach Steven Schumacher confirmed. Recently, the club added Lewis Koumas and Bosun Lawal to their squad, following earlier signings of Sam Gallagher, Ben Gibson, Viktor Johanson, and Eric Bocat. However, Stoke is still in the market for additional reinforcements, particularly in central midfield, central defense, and the forward positions.

Schumacher is hopeful that the next signing will be finalized in time for the player to be included in the squad for Saturday’s match against Watford. He mentioned, “We’re trying to sort out a few final details. If it’s done in time, great; if not, we still have a strong squad to take to Watford.”

Stoke began their Championship season with a home win against Coventry and followed up with a victory over Carlisle in the Carabao Cup. Despite these successes, Schumacher emphasized that the club remains committed to strengthening the squad in key areas where they feel improvements are needed.

Schumacher also noted that while they are focused on bringing in the right players, there may be some departures in the coming weeks, as they aim to balance the squad and ensure players receive sufficient game time.

A new striker has been a priority, with Emre Tezgel and Niall Ennis sharing starting duties so far, while Ryan Mmaee works his way back to full fitness. Schumacher highlighted the importance of adding quality options to the team and hinted that new arrivals could lead to some players being loaned out.

He concluded by stressing the importance of bringing in players who can genuinely improve the squad, rather than just adding numbers. This, he said, is crucial in maintaining competitiveness in the Championship.
