Niclas Füllkrug and Guido Rodríguez are set to complete the second part of their medicals for West Ham United on Monday, August 5, according to Sean Whetstone.
Whetstone shared on the West Ham Football X account (August 4) that both players are expected to sign their contracts with the Hammers the next day, with an official announcement likely late on Monday or early Tuesday morning (August 6).
The players arrived in East London on Saturday (August 3) and have already completed the first part of their medicals. However, there is still some work to be done by the club’s media team before their signings are officially confirmed.
After a quiet few weeks in the transfer market, West Ham has picked up the pace as manager Julen Lopetegui continues to prepare the squad for the upcoming Premier League season. While fans may have anticipated the club targeting younger talent this summer, the signings of Füllkrug and Rodríguez suggest a slightly different strategy.
There’s always some risk involved in signing players over 30. Neither Füllkrug nor Rodríguez will have much resale value, and there’s a small but realistic possibility that they could start to decline or lose their form.
Perhaps Lopetegui believes his squad could benefit from having one or two more experienced players to help navigate the demands of a full Premier League season. After all, every successful team needs a balance of youth and experience.
Hopefully, both players will pass the second part of their medicals without any problems, allowing them to join Crysencio Summerville in preparations over the coming weeks.
Whether the deal is completed on Monday or Tuesday isn’t crucial, as long as both signings are finalized without any unforeseen complications.
