Brighton and Hove Albion have finalized their decision regarding the star midfield signing as they prepare to travel to QPR. Despite the transfer link to Feyenoord, a young player has still made it into the squad.

Brighton and Hove Albion’s latest addition, midfielder Mats Wieffer, is set to make his debut in the matchday squad as his new team takes on QPR in their second-to-last pre-season friendly. This comes after the team’s successful trip to Japan, where they secured friendly victories against Kashima Antlers and Tokyo Verdy.

During their time in Japan, Albion impressively scored nine goals, with new signings Yankuba Minteh and Amario Cozier-Duberry making their mark on the scoresheet. However, Wieffer was unable to join the team on the trip as he was still undergoing rehabilitation for a thigh injury he suffered while playing for Feyenoord. This injury also prevented him from participating in Euro 2024.

Wieffer, who recently made a £25 million move from Feyenoord to Brighton, has been an integral part of the Dutch club, making 79 appearances over two seasons and contributing nine goals and 11 assists since his transfer from Excelsior in 2022. In his first season under the guidance of Arne Slot, who is now the manager of Liverpool, Wieffer played 37 matches and played a significant role in Feyenoord’s triumph in the Eredivisie, their first title in six years.

For the upcoming match against QPR, Wieffer will begin on the substitutes’ bench.
