Former Newcastle midfielder Tommy Cassidy has died at the age of 73.

Born in Belfast, Cassidy began his career at Glentoran before joining the Magpies in 1970.

Cassidy spent 10 years with Newcastle, making 239 appearances and scoring 28 goals. He played a key role in runs to the 1974 FA Cup final and 1976 League Cup final.

Tommy Cassidy, the ex-Newcastle midfielder, has passed away at 73 years old. Hailing from Belfast, Cassidy started his professional career at Glentoran before moving to the Magpies in 1970.

During his decade-long tenure with Newcastle, Cassidy participated in 239 matches and netted 28 goals. He played a pivotal role in the team’s journey to the 1974 FA Cup final and the 1976 League Cup final.

Additionally, he earned 24 caps for Northern Ireland, scoring a single goal, and was a member of their squad for the 1982 World Cup in Spain.
