Brighton and Hove Albion may have to start the new Premier League season without their first-choice goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen. Verbruggen played a key role for the Netherlands during Euro 2024, helping them reach the semi-finals before a heartbreaking defeat to England. The 21-year-old was expected to be the main goalkeeper under new head coach Fabian Hurzeler, but a reported injury could delay those plans for up to six weeks. Verbruggen’s absence will be felt during Albion’s pre-season trip to Japan and the first two Premier League matches against Everton and Manchester United. Jason Steele may step in, or Carl Rushworth could seize the opportunity after an impressive loan spell at Swansea.
