Coventry City have finalized the acquisition of Brandon Thomas-Asante from West Bromwich Albion after a tumultuous week where the player was on the verge of joining Hull.
The Sky Blues swooped in on the transfer on Tuesday and the 25-year-old forward – who has collaborated with first team coach George Boateng in the Ghana national team – decided to make the move to the CBS Arena instead.
A diligent attacker, who is versatile enough to play out wide, has penned a four-year deal with City, having transferred for an undisclosed fee, rumored to be over £2 million.
“We are thrilled to have Brandon join Coventry City,” stated City manager Mark Robins.
“He is a robust and speedy striker with a proven track record of scoring goals at this level, coupled with an exceptional attitude and work ethic.
“Brandon’s ability to operate across the forward line will further enhance our attacking choices. We are eager to begin working with him at Coventry City.”
Thomas-Asante commenced his professional journey with his hometown club Milton Keynes Dons, where he made his debut in 2016 at the age of 17. Following loan spells with Sutton United and Oxford City, he departed Milton Keynes in 2019 after making 35 appearances.
West Brom forward Brandon Thomas-Asante has officially joined Coventry City
After a brief stint at Ebbsfleet United, Brandon moved to Salford City in League Two where he excelled – featuring in 126 matches and netting 30 goals, and clinching the EFL Trophy.
His impressive performances at Salford led to a transfer to West Bromwich Albion in the Championship at the beginning of the 2022/23 season. Operating as a striker, Thomas-Asante finished as the top scorer in both of his two seasons at West Brom – scoring 9 and then 12 goals in the 22/23 and 23/24 campaigns respectively. In total, he appeared in 78 matches for the Baggies. He has also represented Ghana at the international level.
With near misses in 2023 and 2024, there is growing anticipation that Coventry City can achieve promotion success in 2025 after coming close in previous seasons.
The Sky Blues have been on an upward trajectory on the pitch for the past seven years under manager Mark Robins, evident from their consecutive trips to Wembley for the Championship play-off final and an FA Cup semi-final. The recent arrival of new owner Doug King has brought stability and investment in the club’s infrastructure, including a major refurbishment of the Ryton training base. The squad has been revamped with high-profile sales and new signings, such as Ephron Mason-Clark and Raphael Borges Rodrigues. With the addition of players like Jack Rudoni and Oliver Dovin, the team looks well-equipped for the upcoming season. However, success won’t come easy in a competitive division with strong teams like Burnley, Luton, and Sheffield United. Despite the challenges, this is an exciting time to be a Sky Blues fan, with over 21,000 season ticket holders showing their support for the club.
