The FC Twente captain, Robin Propper, has arrived in the United Kingdom ahead of a proposed move to Rangers, according to Anthony Joseph. The report (31 July) indicates that the centre-back is in Manchester where he will undergo a medical this evening. This news comes just hours after it was reported that the deal was set to be completed by tomorrow (Barry Anderson, 31 July). Propper featured in almost every game for Twente last season, scoring three goals in the process (FBref). When you put that alongside the Dutch side’s defensive league record, in which they conceded just 36 goals in 34 games, it becomes clear to see that the 30-year-old was an integral piece of the puzzle. For manager Philippe Clement, this will come as a welcome relief. There’s been a great deal of talk surrounding incoming and outgoing transfers this summer and with just a few days left until the new campaign gets underway, this could give Rangers a real injection of life from a defensive standpoint. With so much uncertainty off the pitch regarding their immediate future at Ibrox, they needed some good news. If Propper can come in and make an immediate impact, that could be the kind of spark that kickstarts a season full of pleasant surprises for this team.
