Starting his potentially final pre-season with Manchester City, Pep Guardiola leads his team against Celtic in their first summer friendly on Wednesday.
The two champions meet at the Kenan Memorial Stadium in North Carolina, with Brendan Rodgers’ side in high spirits after their impressive 4-0 victory over DC United.
Guardiola has added yet another Premier League winners’ medal to his extensive collection of silverware, alongside a Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup crown. However, replicating their incredible treble of top-flight, FA Cup, and Champions League triumphs from 2023 proved to be a challenge too great for Man City.
Following their elimination from Europe’s premier competition by Real Madrid, Man City’s hopes of repeating their success were dashed at Wembley in the FA Cup final, where Manchester United emerged victorious, potentially saving Erik ten Hag’s job.
There have been rumors that Guardiola could become England’s head coach, replacing Gareth Southgate, with Wembley potentially becoming his permanent home from 2025 onwards. Furthermore, there is a growing belief that the legendary Catalan will not extend his contract at the Etihad beyond the upcoming season.
However, the City fans can still enjoy at least one more season of Guardiola’s touchline antics as they aim for an unprecedented fifth consecutive Premier League title, having already made history by fending off fierce competition.
