Breaking News: Dele Alli to resign with Everton after agreement with Tottenham over contract clause

Since 2022, the former Spurs fan favorite has not worn an Everton shirt. Dele’s interview with Gary Neville a year ago revealed the player’s troubles stemming from his history, but a fresh rumor indicates Dele may have a chance to turn things around.

Tottenham intends to ignore a provision in the agreement.

Surprisingly, Spurs, then led by Antonio Conte, allowed Dele to leave the team for nothing. According to The Athletic, the Everton contract was reportedly based on appearance-based compensation; if Alli made 20 appearances for The Toffees, Spurs would have to pay them £10 million.

During his two and a half years on Merseyside, Alli only made 13 appearances for Everton. His contract just expired, putting Dele in the wilderness of football, and Everton is hesitant to extend it as long as the Tottenham arrangement is in place.

After amazing seasons at Tottenham and for England, Dele Alli seemed to have the world at his feet. It was one of the biggest mysteries in the sport as to why and how he plummeted from the very highest level of football. Observing his remarkable ascent from MK Dons was delightful.

Dele’s performances began to decline after 2020, and the creative midfielder would only show glimpses of his potential before struggling to regain form.

When Dele eventually sat down with Gary Neville a little over a year ago, the 27-year-old said that his recent treatment sessions for a sleeping pill addiction were a reflection of his bad mental health, as he was facing the demons from his background. (Twitter: The Overlap)

During the interview, Dele conveyed his resolve to battle his way back to his previous position. Following the interview, a lot of people called for Alli to return, but the offensive midfielder’s aspirations were derailed by injury problems that he now seems to be conquering, as he shares videos of himself training on social media ahead of the upcoming campaign.

A new update on Dele Alli’s status has been offered by Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail.Soccer.London verified that, despite having no contract with the team, the former Spurs player had been practicing with Everton at Finch Farm ahead of the 2024–2025 campaign.

According to Wheeler, Everton and Tottenham have now decided to revoke the prior arrangement, which would have required the Toffees to reimburse Spurs in the event that Dele was given a new deal. (The Daily Mail)

The deal implies that Dele may still play in the Premier League, as the 28-year-old is expected to be given an opportunity in Everton’s forthcoming preseason campaign.

Nearly all football fans, I’m sure, would want to see the former England international get back to his best and light up the Premier League like he did in 2016.
