In yet another cliched pretext before the season begins, Rangers manager Philippe Clement responded, “Rome wasn’t built in one day,” when questioned about his team’s chances.
Regarding the team’s chances for 2024–25, the manager of the Gers has been consulting with Chris Jack from The Rangers Review, as revealed by X on July 12.
“Rome was not built in one day,” Clement remarked. The Rangers won’t be restored in a single day either. I can assure all of the supporters that everyone is putting in day and night to achieve it.
If the Belgian hadn’t previously said the same thing, this would be something the Light Blues’ fans would hold onto.
The Rangers manager made the same corny quote following a 1-1 draw against Aris Limassol at Ibrox on November 30, 2023 [Rangers Review, 1 December 2023].
“I explained a few things already; Rome wasn’t built in a day,” he remarked. There is tasks to complete.
This remark is a bit hollow after his team fell to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup this past season.
Philippe Clement offers an explanation for Rangers’ rebirth.
After being relegated to the fourth division and placed under administration in 2012, Ibrox has been undergoing reconstruction for more than ten years.
Since then, there have been many ups and downs and few opportunities to get Rangers supporters out of their seats.
Although winning the league title in 2021 was an incredible occasion, it was ruined when Steven Gerrard moved to Aston Villa, a mid-table Premier League team.
There were a lot of amazing nights throughout the 2022 Europa League campaign that people will talk about for years to come.
The fact that Celtic has won the league all but once means that the Gers are constantly conscious of how far behind their opponents.
This summer feels like any other—it feels like a time of transformation. To be honest, it’s not all Clement’s fault; he is reducing optimism by offering vacuous promises of change.
Many fans view this as a chance to get out of there with an excuse before the season even starts.
The wider picture at Ibrox isn’t getting any clearer, despite the fact that it seems like Clement is trying his hardest to make the most of what he has and add wise reinforcements.
Although the signings of players like Hamza Igamane for a low cost and Connor Barron for free are encouraging, the distance between the Gers and Celtic is not getting any narrower.
In our first preseason interview, Philippe Clement discusses transfers, fan expectations, and other topics.
“It took a while to build Rome. The Rangers won’t be restored in a single day either. I can assure all of the supporters that everyone is putting in endless hours to achieve it.”
You’re right, Clement—Rome wasn’t created in a day. However, even after two millennia, it was constructed using materials that are still in use in regions of Asia, North Africa, and Europe.
Matchsticks and paper mâché have been used in Rangers’ reconstruction.
In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement thwarted a desperate attempt by Robby McCrorie to escape in January.
