Richard Stearman, a former defender for Derby County, has announced his retirement from football following a 20-year career played for numerous clubs.
Stearman played 27 appearances for Solihull Moors after being released by Derby at the end of the previous campaign, one of three players released by the team.
Both on and off the field, he was well-liked at Pride Park and provided the team with tremendous support, especially during one of the biggest crises in their history.The center-back’s final game for Derby was a 3-0 FA Cup victory over Barnsley. Following that, he started helping head coach Paul Warne out in the stands by conducting some analysis.
He stated, “As players, we all know that this day will eventually come,” in reference to his retirement. But in some sense, it has always looked to be in the future. That since we play, another season will inevitably come.”
“Well, for me, that day has finally arrived,” he said. I am officially declaring my retirement from professional football after 20 years and almost 600 appearances.”
He was extremely appreciative of his career, saying, “When I think back on my career, I feel incredibly fortunate and proud to have represented the clubs I have.” I’d like to thank my agent Tam as well as all of the managers, coaches, and general staff members. None of it would have been possible without you guys,” Yorkshire Live says.
In addition, Stearman expressed gratitude to his teammates: “To my teammates, thank you.” Every day, you have made it a complete pleasure to come to work. We have experienced tremendous highs and lows together, and I am fortunate to be able to call many of you lifelong friends. Actually, the thing I shall miss the most is you guys.”
“To the followers. I appreciate your unwavering support throughout. It’s evident from Covid that the game is essentially nothing without you. I am appreciative of the unique bonds I have formed with many of you. I have enjoyed my time at all of your clubs, please know that. I’m a fan of them all and I always will be.”
“To my sister and parents. It seems like not enough to say thank you. Your unending selflessness has enabled me to fulfill my ambition. I aspire to have brought you pride.”
“And finally, to my amazing wife Beth. My greatest ally in both happy and bad times. I will always be grateful to you for giving me three lovely children. To me, your support and affection have meant the world. My proudest accomplishment is our family.”
