The biggest current holes left to fill on NFL rosters

Teams still have a few weeks left before the deadline to finalize their 53-man rosters. As they work on their depth charts during the summer, there are certain areas that need attention before the regular season begins. Here are two teams and their specific needs:

25. Detroit Lions: Aidan Hutchinson’s sidekicks

Aidan Hutchinson, who was chosen ahead of edge rusher Travon Walker in the 2022 draft, led the NFL in QB pressures last season. He is one of the best young pass rushers in the league. However, the Lions haven’t found a suitable complement to him. They took a chance on Marcus Davenport, a former first-rounder from New Orleans, but he hasn’t been productive since 2021. Their 2022 second-rounder, Josh Paschal, has also not lived up to expectations. The Lions, who are strong in most positions and have Super Bowl aspirations, could benefit from adding a veteran rotational piece to play alongside Hutchinson.

24. Denver Broncos: Patrick Surtain’s wingmen

The Broncos found a potential solution for their slot cornerback position early last season with Ja’Quan McMillian. He played a key role in their defensive turnaround. However, the team still needs to determine who will start opposite Patrick Surtain on the perimeter. Riley Moss, a third-round pick from Iowa, is leading the competition after missing his rookie season. If he starts, he would become the first white cornerback to start an NFL game since Kevin Kaesviharn in 2003. Levi Wallace, a former starter for the Buffalo Bills who was benched by the Steelers last season, is also on the team as potential insurance.
