Celtic’s summer transfer window is expected to be active, with outgoings being a key part of the club’s strategy before the end of August. Brendan Rodgers has expressed a preference for a first-team squad of around 25 players, which means several current squad members will be moved on to make room for new signings.

One player likely to leave is Hyeongyu Oh, who is close to securing a move to Belgium. The South Korean forward, who made just three starts last season, is not in Rodgers’ plans. Genk has shown interest for some time, and recent reports suggest the deal is nearing completion. RMC Sport journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that Genk is “very confident” of signing Oh, having agreed on personal terms while negotiating the transfer fee with Celtic. The Belgian club aims to pay around £4.2 million plus add-ons for Oh, who has scored 12 goals in 47 appearances since joining in January of last year. This transfer is set to be Celtic’s first major decision of the summer, allowing the club to focus on bringing in a preferred striker target early in the pre-season. Moving Oh early is advantageous, freeing up resources and space for quality signings. While Oh has potential, his time at Celtic hasn’t been as successful as hoped. A swift transfer that yields a profit allows the club to reinvest in Rodgers’ squad, benefiting all parties involved.
