Everton’s director of football, Kevin Thelwell, has addressed the departure of several young players, including midfielder Lewis Warrington, in a statement on the club’s official website.

According to a report on evertonfc.com, Warrington, who made his Premier League debut in the club’s final game against Sheffield United, is among six young professionals who will be leaving the club. The other players leaving are Mackenzie Hunt, Katia Kouyate, Kyle John, Ed Jones, and Dylan Graham. Their contracts will expire at the end of this month. Additionally, U18 players Sebastian Jensen and Danny Maher, as well as first-team players Andre Gomes and Andy Lonergan, will also be departing.

Thelwell expressed gratitude to all the players leaving the club for their dedication and hard work during their time in the Everton Academy. He highlighted the achievements of Lewis and Mackenzie, who had the opportunity to train with the Men’s Senior Team this season. Lewis, in particular, was given his Premier League debut in the final home game against Sheffield United.

Thelwell acknowledged the players’ Everton journeys and wished them the best for their future endeavors.

Lewis Warrington, a local player who joined Everton at a young age, is now set to leave the club. As he approaches his 23rd birthday and is no longer eligible for Under-21 football, it was expected that his time at Everton would come to an end. However, Warrington’s experience in various loan spells, where he made 71 professional appearances and moved up divisions each time, will undoubtedly attract interest from other clubs. His brief appearance in the Premier League against Sheffield United adds to his credentials and sets him up for a promising career.

In the end, it proved to be quite appropriate that he concluded Everton’s season on the field, marking the culmination of his 16-year tenure at the club. He took the place of a departing midfielder, the esteemed and seasoned Gomes. Moving on to other Everton updates, Steve Bruce has shared his thoughts following Jarrad Branthwaite’s debut for England.
