Sunderland have the opportunity to secure the services of Callum Styles from Barnsley on a permanent basis this summer.
Following his loan spell at the Stadium of Light, Styles has expressed his desire to extend his stay at Sunderland. The 24-year-old midfielder featured in 12 Championship matches during the latter half of the 2023/24 season after joining the Black Cats from Barnsley. While Sunderland have the option to make the transfer permanent, they are currently considering their alternatives ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
Styles has also been selected as part of Hungary’s 26-man squad for the Euro 2024 tournament. He is eligible to represent Hungary due to his mother’s nationality. Hungary has been placed in Group A alongside Germany, Scotland, and Switzerland, and Styles is eager to contribute to the team’s success, having already earned 20 international caps.
In an interview with FourFourTwo magazine, Styles discussed his experiences at both club and international level. Despite the managerial changes at Sunderland throughout the season, he began to enjoy his time at the club after a few matches and praised the passionate supporters. When asked about his future, Styles admitted that he hadn’t given it much thought as he was focused on playing. However, he expressed his desire to continue at Sunderland, considering the club’s ambitions of reaching the Premier League. Nonetheless, he acknowledged that various factors could influence different scenarios, and he remains open to possibilities.
His immediate goal is to make an impact at the Euros and help Hungary progress beyond the group stage, as he believes that is when the competition intensifies.
