Nottingham Forest has recently introduced a NETBALL team and will be participating in the prestigious Super League of the sport. This expansion into netball marks a new venture for owner Evangelos Marinakis, who is primarily known for his involvement in football.

Nottingham Forest has made history by becoming the inaugural Premier League club to introduce a high-level netball team as part of their ambitious strategy to establish a multi-sport model. Starting from 2025, Nottingham Forest Netball will compete in the revamped Netball Super League (NSL), following the footsteps of owner Evangelos Marinakis’ successful integration of various sports at Olympiacos, including basketball, volleyball, and handball.

The newly-formed netball club will have the privilege of playing their matches at the esteemed Motorpoint Arena Nottingham, while their training sessions will take place at the University of Nottingham.

In a statement, Forest expressed their admiration for Marinakis’ unwavering dedication to fostering a more diverse and inclusive sporting portfolio, a vision that has already been realized at Nottingham Forest’s sister club, Olympiacos.

The decision to venture into netball was driven by the tremendous potential it holds. With over 3 million women participating in netball annually, it stands as the most popular team sport for women in the UK. Furthermore, the sport garnered significant viewership, with a staggering 8.5 million people tuning in to watch netball matches in 2023.
