David Edgar expressed his immediate reaction following Rangers’ decision to halt their pursuit of Jose Cordoba in the summer transfer window.
It was reported that the Light Blues had abandoned their interest in the Levksi Sofia defender, with Philippe Clement now turning his focus to other potential targets. Meanwhile, Leon Balogun is expected to sign a contract extension [Chris Jack, 29 May].
Initially, Rangers were close to finalizing a £2 million deal for the 22-year-old, and although Edgar confessed to not being familiar with Cordoba, he admitted feeling “annoyed” by the recent turn of events.
In a post on X on Wednesday (29 May), he wrote: “Hadn’t heard of him till two weeks ago but now I’m annoyed. The transfer window in a nutshell.”
The unpredictability of the transfer window can be captivating, as seen in the case of Cordoba. However, it serves as a reminder that not every player linked with a move to Ibrox will end up donning the Light Blues jersey.
Securing new defenders remains a top priority for Rangers, especially with the defensive vulnerabilities witnessed under Clement’s tenure. With ongoing speculation surrounding Connor Goldson’s future, reinforcements are essential. While Cordoba would have been a valuable addition due to his left-sided centre-back attributes, it is crucial for Rangers to avoid investing in players who view the club as a mere stepping stone to the Premier League.
Looking ahead, Clement will be hoping for better luck in his pursuit of other defensive targets in the upcoming weeks and months. This will allow Edgar and the Rangers faithful to once again relish the excitement of the transfer window.
