Previous Bayern Munich managerial candidate makes intriguing Vincent Kompany claim as Burnley boss closes in on move
Burnley and Bayern Munich have reached an agreement regarding Vincent Kompany’s compensation…
This information comes from former Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann, who was also considered for a return to the Allianz Arena during the club’s extended search for a successor to Thomas Tuchel.
Bayern ultimately decided on Burnley boss Kompany, after also considering candidates like Xabi Alonso, Unai Emery, Oliver Glasner, Julen Lopetegui, and Ralf Rangnick. At one point, there was even speculation that Tuchel might stay on despite agreeing to part ways with the club back in February.
It has been a challenging season for the Bavarian giants, who finished third in the Bundesliga, 18 points behind the surprise winners Bayer Leverkusen. This marks the first time in 12 years that Bayern have failed to win the league title, and they also did not secure any cup trophies.
Due to these struggles, Nagelsmann—who has chosen to remain as the manager of the German national team—believes there will be less pressure on Kompany.
“I’ve heard that he’s a very good coach with outstanding prospects and he has had many good coaches who trained him, so he’ll do well,” Nagelsmann said, as quoted by Sky Germany.
