A record-breaking number of EFL clubs, including Coventry City, have achieved the prestigious Family Excellence status, as more than one million young fans entered the stadiums.

In the 2023/24 season, over one million junior supporters had the opportunity to enjoy the thrilling experience of attending an EFL game in the Sky Bet Championship, League One, or League Two.

This remarkable achievement, which has been accomplished for the third consecutive season, is a testament to the success of the EFL’s Family Excellence Scheme. This season, a record-breaking 68 clubs have been awarded either Gold, Silver, or Bronze status, showcasing the high standards set by the scheme.

Coventry City has once again been honored with the Family Excellence Award, recognizing the exceptional experience they provide to young supporters.

The EFL’s Family Excellence Scheme evaluates the family experience provided by clubs and rewards them with Gold, Silver, or Bronze status based on the quality of their matchday experience. This includes various aspects such as ticket purchase, matchday entertainment, accessibility, facilities, and communications. The introduction of the Bronze status is a new addition for the 2023/24 season.

Out of the 68 clubs that achieved Family Excellence status, 13 were distinguished as ‘Gold Award’ winners for their outstanding family experience on matchdays. Additionally, 28 clubs received the Silver status, while 27 clubs were granted the Bronze status.

Plymouth Argyle was honored as the inaugural Family Excellence Club of the Season. This recognition was based on their exceptional performance in two visit reports, highlighting their commitment to providing an outstanding experience for families and first-time fans. The Pilgrims excelled in all aspects of the scheme, including pre-match communication, family entertainment, and the service provided by their fan representatives on matchday. These efforts ensured that families had a positive and enjoyable matchday experience.

Trevor Birch, the Chief Executive of the EFL, expressed his satisfaction with the record-breaking attendance of junior supporters at EFL matches, stating that it is a positive sign for the league’s future.
